Great news for Depeche Mode fans! The band is making a comeback this year and they finally announced the first single of their upcoming album; when is it coming out?

Last week, the group—Dave Gahan and Martin Gore—started teasing their followers by sharing a cryptic post featuring a countdown visuals with the caption, "Time is fleeting, see what it brings."

Today, they have finally confirmed on Instagram the details of their lead single titled "Ghosts Again," which will be available for purchase and streaming on major music platforms starting on February 9.

The upcoming single will be a part of their highly-anticipated album, "Memento Mori," which will be out on March 17 via Columbia and Mute. This would be their first record in more than half a decade. The new project is their follow-up to 2017's "Spirit."

This would also be the first time the group will release any content after their bandmate Andy Fletcher's death last year.

Depeche Mode New Album 2023

In a previous interview with Billboard during the announcement of their album in Germany last October, the group noted that the record, titled "Memento Mori," is Latin for "remember you will die."

Dave Gahan noted that it is the perfect title and the songs in their next project are leaning into the idea of "life is fleeting and life is cruel." Even though some people might find the title dark, he clarified that the songs would be "joyous and celebratory."

The frontman and Martin Gore have wrapped up working on the songs and even came up with the title way before Andy Fletcher's passing, noting that the death of their bandmate became even more relevant to the project.

Most of the content from the album was conceptualized and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, revealing that Gore has a studio in Santa Barbara and they would brainstorm over ideas through e-mail.

At the time of working on the record with producers Marta Salogni and James Ford, he received a devastating phone call, saying Andy Fletcher passed away.

In early reports, Fletcher died at his home on May 26, 2022, due to an aortic dissection. He was 60 years old.
