Last month, Selena Gomez shocked fans as she made her comeback on social media after not using some of her accounts over the past few years. Although she previously mentioned the main reason why she left the platforms, the pop star gave her supporters more insight into what happened behind the scenes.

The former Disney star recently spoke to Vanity Fair to discuss her upcoming projects in the fields of music and film, as well as opening up about her true feelings before she left social media.

Speaking about her experience, the pop star said she never got the chance to go to an actual high school as she started working as an actress at a very young age, this is the main reason why she treated the world as her high school for the longest time.

However, there's a downside to all of that as Gomez said she started getting "inundated with information" she didn't want to read.

Although the musician didn't directly name anyone in the interview, it appears that she was talking about Justin Bieber as she noted that she went through a hard time in a breakup.

"I didn't want to see any of the [feedback]-not necessarily about the relationship, but the opinions of me versus [someone] else. There'd be thousands of really nice comments, but my mind goes straight to the mean one," she revealed. (via Elle Magazine)

Gomez then shared some of the comments she received, saying haters could get very detailed with their remarks by writing paragraphs that are "so specific and mean." The online negativity led the pop star to get emotional and anxious.

Despite quitting some social media platforms, the "Wizards of Waverly Place" star only has TikTok because she finds it "a little less hostile."

Speaking about how she grapples with the internet today, the actress said she created a system wherein she would do things and send them to her assistant who posts everything. Regarding her comments, her team will compose or put together "a few things that are encouraging."

The recent interview comes a few weeks after Gomez made a comeback on Instagram by posting photos of herself. In the caption, the musician wrote, "Wait can you tell I'm back on Instagram?"
