The best-selling novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald will receive the musical theater treatment.

According to Theater Mania, the 1925 novel will be adapted into a musical titled "Gatsby."

It is under the helm of director Rachel Chavkin, with the help of choreographer Sonya Tayeh, and music from Florence Welch, Thomas Bartlett, and Martyna Majok.

"This book has haunted me for a large part of my life," said Welch in an interview when asked about her involvement with the upcoming musical.

It contains some of my favorite lines in literature. Musicals were my first love, and I feel a deep connection to Fitzgerald's broken romanticism. It is an honor to have been offered the chance to recreate this book in song."

According to Rolling Stone, "Gatsby" will premiere in 2024 at the American Repertory Theater on the Harvard University campus.

Welch's 2018 interview with the magazine revealed how invested she is in literature and books, which probably influenced her decision in doing the music score for the upcoming musical.

"Do you do the thing where you go to people's houses and go straight to their bookshelves and secretly, silently judge them on their book choices?" She rhetorically asked.

"I have such a fear of somebody doing that to me, so I keep mine really well curated."

It's safe to assume that Welch has a copy of "The Great Gatsby" somewhere on her bookshelf at home, then.

'Gatsby' Musical

"Gatsby" will be adopted from "The Great Gatsby," first published in 1925, and written by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

It follows the story of Nick Carraway, a war veteran who moves to New York City in hopes of finding employment and living a quiet life.

He finds himself living in a modest home next to a luxurious mansion owned by a multi-millionaire, Jay Gatsby, who loves to throw lavish house parties.

As of this writing, there are no reports on who will be bridging the eccentric and wild characters to life.

However, with Welch working on the lyrics and music for the musical, fans can expect an enjoyable and mystical show.

After all, Welch is the genius behind the 2009 studio album "Lungs," "Ceremonials" in 2001, "How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful" in 2015, "High as Hope" in 2018, and "Dance Fever" in 2022.
