Adam Lambert has been performing with Queen for the last decade or so, and he has some thoughts on how that's going for him.

Despite the title of his newly released studio album, "High Drama," Lambert is actually at a drama-free point in his life.

"I wanted to do songs that could come from my own life, from my experiences," Lambert told the New York Post. "And I wanted to do songs that were [by] other artists who were real individuals. Most of the artists on this album march to the beat of their own drum. And I really respect that."

Unlike other singers, Lambert mostly performs songs that aren't originally his, and perhaps this is actually his comfort zone, after all, he has been doing it since his "American Idol" days.

"Even when I was doing American Idol, thinking of ways to bring a fresh slant on really well-known songs was always paramount in my mind," he continued. "So when the idea came up for me to do a covers album, I thought, Well, why not?"

The theatrics he's referring to are nothing short of spectacular, as the singer always manages to own every song he performs, regardless of it being a cover-and this is best seen in his performances with Queen.

"You know, I'm an entertainer first... so being on stage with Queen and doing songs for an audience that know every word, it feels great," Lambert said.

'Proud Ghost'

When asked how he felt about performing songs by the legendary singer, Freddie Mercury, Lambert admitted that it is a responsibility, and that he sometimes wonders what the late singer would say had he been alive to see him perform.

"I often wonder, 'Is Freddie's spirit aware that we're still celebrating him and singing his music? Would Freddie like the way I sing?'

"And I hope, with all my heart, that he would approve of everything that we've been doing with these songs."

Mercury died in November 1991 and was known to be a flamboyant performer, much like Lambert.

Another similarity he and the "For Your Entertainment" singer have in common is their sexual orientation; they are both openly gay.

Both of the singers have been subjected to scrutiny and criticism because of this, like how people questioned Lambert's makeup looks.

"It just made me laugh," Lambert said. "I was always like, 'Are we really talking about my makeup?"
