Three musicians who were supposed to appear at King Charles III's coronation concert revealed they would no longer be making appearances.
King Charles' coronation hit a glitch only a few months before the event. According to British news outlets, three of the musicians who were tapped to perform at the concert officially backed out.
A news outlet cited The Sun's report, confirming that Elton John, Harry Styles, and The Spice Girls would no longer be making an appearance due to conflicting schedules.
The "Rocket Man" hitmaker is currently focusing on his ongoing Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which started in Pennsylvania on Sep. 8, 2018. King Charles' coronation will take place on May 6, and John has scheduled concerts in Germany before and after the date.
With that, he and his team reportedly saw going to and from the country to make it to the UK as unfeasible.
Meanwhile, the former One Direction member is also in the middle of his touring schedule. While the "Watermelon Sugar" singer has available dates in May, the publication said it would be too hard for him to include King Charles' special day on his calendar since they need "downtime."
Same thing happened to The Spice Girls, who will miss the event because of their group and solo schedules.
On the other hand, Buckingham Palace reportedly tried to get Adele and Ed Sheeran on board. According to Daily Mail, both singers told the monarch they could not make it. Sheeran, for his part, also has conflicting schedules. The "Easy on Me" crooner did not offer a specific reason.
Who Will Replace Them at King Charles' Coronation?
As of press time, several musicians' names surfaced as the palace tries to fill in the gap. Among the potential replacements include Lionel Richie, Take That, and Olly Murs.
"The biggest names and acts in world music are being approached for the concert. If you draw up a list of the most popular acts in the world over the past 30 years then they are all being considered," a source said.
King Charles and the palace previously announced that the coronation and concert would feature "a range of musical styles and performers."
In total, they prepared 12 new pieces, including six orchestral, five choral, and one organ commission piece, for the historic event.
Queen Elizabeth II's eldest son will formally be crowned on May 6 at Westminster Abbey, London, alongside Camilla, Queen Consort.
