Daniel Barenboim, a popular pianist and musical conductor of classical orchestras, has recently announced that his show in Monaco would be canceled due to his health problems.

According to the Associated Press, the musician was supposed to perform along with his orchestra at the Opera de Monte-Carlo in the European country. However, he noted in a message to concertgoers that he would not be able to push through with the scheduled show.

"Despite my best efforts, I have not yet built up the muscular strength to perform piano recital programs," he said.

In 2022, the classical performer was diagnosed with a serious neurological condition, leading him to leave his position as Berlin State Opera's music director after working for 30 years.

Since stepping down, Barenboim has returned to work and had already performed in several cities like Vienna, Milan, and Berlin since February because his health had improved.

During his series of shows in Vienna, he was accompanied by his childhood friend Martha Argerich. On the other hand, Cecilia Bartoli joined him in his performances in Berlin.

The 80-year-old artist was not happy with his Monaco show's cancelation, but since his health is already improving, he's excited to return to the venue "on the first possible occasion, be it as a pianist or a conductor"

The outlet further noted that Cecilia Bartoli revealed his canceled Opera de Monte-Carlo show was supposed to be the musician's 80th birthday celebration. Other renowned performers who were set to perform were violinist Maxim Vengerov and pianist Roustem Saitkoulov to perform several classics by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and more.

Daniel Barenboim Previous Performance

The Associated Press caught up with the classical musician last month after his return to the Teatro alla Scalla in Milan, Italy. His performance was a surprise as he became a substitute for Daniel Harding, who canceled his appearance due to personal issues.

The concert, which featured songs by Mozart, happened just shortly after Barenboim left his position as a musical director. In the interview, the renowned pianist said he felt like he was only absent for a week and he was very touched to receive the invitation.

Even though he just returned to performing last month, his health condition was visibly affecting how he moves as he takes his time walking slowly and standing up.

However, it appears that the medical woe won't keep him from doing his passion as people around the venue saw how his energy changed after picking up the baton during rehearsals.
