"Schmigadoon!" is back, but it has become darker.

After the light and bright fantasy comedy musical of "Schimgadoon!", season 1 comes with a rather dark and campy interpretation of the '70s era of Broadway musicals.

Cecily Strong and Keegan Michael Key return as the lead stars for "Schmigadoon!" season 2 as Melissa and Josh.

However, as they attempt to return to Schmigadoon, they are transported into a different world, a darker one - a complete contrast to season 1's fantasy-like dream.

Primetime Emmy nominee Tituss Burgess welcomed the couple to what is now called "Schmicago." Burgess plays The Narrator, a parody of the leading player from "Pippin."

The couple was astounded as they saw a company of what seemed to be cabaret and traveling performers dressed in "Pippin" costumes.

Dove Cameron also appears in the second season as Jenny Banks, a parody of Sally Bowles from "Cabaret." Kristin Chenoweth, on the other hand, will be taking the reigns as Miss Coldwell, the meat pie shop owner, in a parody of Mrs. Lovette on the show.

After playing a closeted gay mayor in Season 1, Alan Cumming will be acting opposite Chenoweth as he plays Dooley Flint, a knife-wielding character parody of Sweeney Todd.

BAFTA and Oscar-winning actress Ariana Debose will also be returning for the second season as the Emcee, a mirror of the same character from "Chicago."

Madam Frau will also be getting a parody character of Fräulein Schneider of "Cabaret" from Ann Harada as the great Jane Krakowski will be playing Bobbie Flanagan, a parody character of Billy Flynn from "Chicago."

"Hair" will also be referenced in the Season 2 of "Schmigadoon!" as Aaron Tveit will be playing the hippie Topher.

Patrick Page will also be in the second season, and so is Martin Short, who will be reprising his role as the Leprechaun. Jamie Camill, who played a character based on Captain Von Trapp, will be playing Sergeant Rivera in the new season.

According to Playbill, the show will also reference "Chorus Line," "Annie," "Oliver!," and even "Sweet Charity" in one of the episodes.

"Schmigadoon" was nominated at the 2022 Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming, Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score), Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour), and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. The latter earned an Emmy for their song "Corn Puddin" on Season 1.
