It's been nearly 17 years since Will Smith last released an album and it appears that the rapper is slowly going back to his musical roots as he recently collaborated with a young artist through a short clip.

Taking to his official Instagram account, the actor shared a video of himself stitching a video originally posted by a 10-year-old bassist named Ellen Alaverdyan who did an instrumental cover of his track "Just The Two Of Us."

"Wow!! @ellenplaysbass, this is FANTASTIC. You are the Sweetest!! Tagging in @jacross @elewrockjazz.. Put somthin' on it," he wrote in the caption.

In the short clip, the young musician played the bass of the song as the Oscar award-winning actor rapped the verse of his track. In the same video, Jorge Sanchez later chimed in with a drum solo. He also tagged a few artists in the caption to join the trend.

According to ET Online, the song was originally released by the rapper in 1997. It might sound familiar to some fans because the song sampled Bill Wither's song of the same title.

The track was reportedly inspired by his fatherhood. At the time, his only child was Trey Smith. Years later, he welcomed two more children Jaden and Willow with his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Will Smith Almost Made a Music Comeback at the Grammys

Last month, the Grammys saw some of the legendary artists in one stage to celebrate hip-hop's 50th anniversary. Some of the musicians present at the event were Missy Elliott, Lil Wayne, Nelly, Queen Latifah, The Roots, and many more.

In an interview, Questlove revealed that Will Smith was supposed to be a part of the performance, but he wasn't able to attend the Grammys due to his hectic schedule.

"I'll give the spoiler alert away: Will Smith was a part of the festivities tonight, but they started shooting 'Bad Boys 4' already this week," the musician said.

Questlove further explained that there were a lot of preliminary shots that they needed to take ahead of the tribute, but since the actor was busy, they had to drop him from the lineup.

Aside from Will Smith, there were also other artists that were supposed to be part of the performance, but most of them have other jobs.
