Shakira has had a "very rough year." Not only did she have to deal with the tax fraud allegation, but she also had a nasty breakup with her longterm boyfriend Gerard Pique.

She famously released "Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53" with Bizarrap, which instantly climbed the charts, becoming an anthem for broken-hearted women all over the world.

"The thing with this song is it has become an anthem for so many women out there. I've had a very rough year after my separation," Shakira told Jimmy Kimmel during her appearance on his show.

"And writing this song has been so important to me. It's been a healthy way to channel my emotions."

The Colombian singer met Pique several years back while she was filming the music video for her song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)."

Their relationship turned sour after the soccer player moved on to date Clara Chia Marti, a 22-year-old who interned at his company.

"After we put out this song, I really felt like I don't even have fans out there," Shakira continued.

"I have a sisterhood of women who have been through the same things that I have been through, who think the way I think, who feel the way I feel, who had to put up with so much crap the way I had to."

She also revealed that it was her 10-year-old son, Milan, who encouraged the singer to collaborate with Bizarrap.

He was convinced that they would create a chart-topping hit, and he wasn't wrong.

"And [Milan] sent a voice note to my manager, Jaime. He said, 'You got to put my mom together with Bizarrap on a song because they're going to be No. 1.' And he was right," Shakira recounted.

Despite being very obvious that she was calling out her ex in the song, as well as other songs she has since released, Shakira has actually kept much to herself.

"I've remained quiet and just tried to process it all," she once said in another interview. "It's been tough not only for me, but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult."

According to reports, Shakira's hardships were not for nothing, and even fellow singer Adele has shown her support.

During one of her Las Vegas shows, Adele said, "Oh, I saw her performance on Jimmy Fallon last night. Her ex-husband's in trouble!"
