Diabetes is something that Nick Jonas has been passionately talking about. Having been diagnosed with a chronic illness when he was younger, the singer has made it his life commitment to be a champion in raising awareness of one of the leading causes of death in the world.

In a panel interview at SXSW, Jonas opened up on how diabetes has affected his everyday life, including his work as a singer.

Jonas was participated by other prominent figures who are also prominent in the realm of diabetes advocacy. This includes Dexcom COO Jeake Leach, Blanchard Valley Diabetes Center Thomas Grace, Colorado State representative Leslie Herod, and Type 2 diabetes diagnosed elder Rev. Mireya Martinex of the United Methodist Church.

Nick Jonas Diabetes Health Update

Following the SXSW panel discussion, Jonas spoke to Billboard following the panel discussion he had, talking about diabetes management.

For Jonas, the panel discussion went well, as he met "really interesting people" whom he talked about a cause he is passionate about.

"There was a lot of conversation around access and affordability and some good progress that we've made over the last couple years - great progress very recently - and how we can continue that conversation and raise more awareness around CGM and the benefits of that," he reflected.

As to how Nick does his self-management, the singer believes that with his age, these health woes are becoming more and more important to him as a new father. He revealed that he is "even more" focused on his health, fitness, and wellness. However, Nick does not far away from admitting that it has affected his everyday life from time to time.

"One of the major symptoms of living with type 1 is that when your glucose is high, it affects your hormones and everything else, so your attitude can be really... edgy is the best way to put it," he confessed.

But Nick doesn't want it to be a factor as he is working through it. He further noted that using Dexcom, a continuous glucose monitoring system used for diabetes management, has been "life-changing" because he could make real-time changes in his lifestyle.

Nick Jonas Broadway Residency

Nick, along with his brothers, is currently in the middle of their broadway residency at the Marquis Theatre.

They are set to perform a five-day residency at the famed theatre, performing each day a different setlist. Starting yesterday, the band has performed the hits from their self-titled debut album.
