More musicians will honor Lynyrd Skynyrd at the upcoming CMT Music Awards.

The CMT Music Awards this year unveiled exciting details about the event ahead of the Sunday ceremony. It tapped Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown to co-host the show and perform with other performers.

The award-giving body also confirmed a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute to mark the 50th anniversary of the band's debut album.

CMT Music Awards' All-Star Performers To Honor Lynyrd Skynyrd

It has been confirmed that ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, and Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers were tapped to sing two Lynyrd Skynyrd songs alongside other musicians. The performances will be held during a tribute at the awards show.

The tribute will celebrate Lynyrd Skynyrd's album, which featured classic hit songs like "Tuesday's Gone," "Gimme Three Steps," "Simple Man," and "Free Bird," among others.

Other performers during the tribute include Wynonna Judd, Chuck Leavell, Warren Haynes, Cody Johnson, LeAnn Rimes, and Paul Rodgers.

"Johnson and Rodgers will [sing] lead vocals with Gibbons, with Slash and Haynes on electric guitar for a one-time-only performance of a pair of timeless Lynyrd Skynyrd hits," the CMT Music Awards said. "Rimes and Judd will fill the role of the Honkettes,"

According to Billboard, Gary Rossington's wife will attend the event alongside Lynyrd Skynyrd's current members, Johnny Van Zant and Rickey Medlocke.

CMT Music Awards To Remember Gary Rossington

Although the band will be honored as a whole group, the event and fans will also remember Lynyrd Skynyrd's last surviving member, Gary Rossington.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Facebook page confirmed Rossington's death earlier this month. It did not reveal his cause of death, but the band expressed heartbreak after losing its "brother, friend, family member, songwriter, and guitarist."

Through the years, Lynyrd Skynyrd went through the worst. At the height of its popularity in 1977, the band's tragic plane crash occurred. The accident claimed the lives of founding member and vocalist, Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines.

The band's road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray also died.

The crash happened after the plane ran out of fuel while flying 10,000 feet and crashed into a wooded area.

Rossington survived but sustained two broken legs, arms, ankles, and wrists, but the pain led him to face serious drug addiction years before his passing. He also dealt with other health struggles, with the latest issue occurring in 2021 when he had to undergo emergency heart surgery.
