Lynyrd Skynyrd revealed its future after the death of its last remaining founding member, Gary Rossington.

The 2023 CMT Music Awards recently dedicated a tribute segment to Lynyrd Skynyrd to mark the 50th anniversary of the band's debut album. Guests also honored Rossington, who died in March and became the last founding member to pass away.

The tribute was deemed as a sign of farewell by fans, but the band formally revealed whether it would continue promoting or not through a new statement.

Will Lynyrd Skynyrd Disband After Gary Rossington's Death?

Amid queries about whether Lynyrd Skynyrd will break up after the guitarist's passing, the band's members assured fans they would continue their legacy like what Rossington wanted them to do.

The late musician's widow and longtime backing singer Dale Rossington cited Rossington's words, saying that Lynyrd Skynyrd's music is "bigger" than him or any one person.

"He spent his entire life trying to carry on that dream for Ronnie [Van Zant], Allen [Collins], Steve [Gaines] and all the others over the years," she said, per Rolling Stone. "His dream will continue thanks to Johnny [Van Zant], Rickey [Medlocke] and the rest of our bandmates to continue to carry his legacy and music on for future generations."

Meanwhile, Johnny Van Zant talked about how important it is to continue the band's concert experience. The singer, who stepped into Ronnie's role during the band's reformation in the 1980s, said that the music band created before and the music they made as a new generation of members were meant to be experienced live.

Rossington last appeared with Lynyrd Skynyrd in a show at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium in November 2022.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Joint Tour With ZZ Top

As part of its plans to continue Lynyrd Skynyrd's legacy, the band will officially start its Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour with ZZ Top in West Palm Beach on July 21.
