The Quireboys' co-founder and guitarist Guy Bailey has died, the band's frontman confirmed in a social media post.

News about Bailey's death was a shocker as he recently scored headlines when he decided to reunite with The Quireboys' frontman, Jonathan "Spike" Gray, to record a new album. Instead of the project details, the singer delivered devastating news about Bailey to their fans.

The Quireboys' Guy Bailey Has Passed Away

Spike delivered the devastating news through his Facebook page, revealing that he had lost his bandmate and "best friend."

"Guy was the kindest, funniest man you could have the pleasure of being around. He was loved by everyone he ever worked with, all the bands he ever toured with and all the Quireboys fans he ever met. He certainly loved you all more than you will ever know," he wrote.

The statement did not disclose Guy Bailey's cause of death, but Spike noted that he died peacefully in a hospital on Thursday "in the arms of his beloved Bianca."

While the vocalist wants to share more details about Bailey, he noted that he is currently in such a hard time and cannot express his heartbreak enough to everyone.

Spike also asked fans to raise a glass for the guitarist and keep the genre alive for him.

Before his death, Bailey was able to write songs for the new album he had been working on with Spike. Per the vocalist, he will fulfill his bandmate's wishes alongside Chris Johnstone, Nigel Mogg, and Rudy Richman.

The aforesaid Quireboys album will be released this year. The exact date of release is yet to be confirmed.

Guy Griffin Honors The Quireboys Original Guitarist Guy Bailey

Aside from Spike, Griffin also spoke about his relationship with Bailey in a Facebook post, noting that they met 36 years ago and played in the same band for six years.

The guitarist expressed how much he will miss the conversations and disagreements he had with Bailey. He then sent his condolences to Bianca and his bereaved family.

The Quireboys arrived when Spike and Bailey decided to co-found the band years after their meeting in Bailey's local pub. Originally known as The Queerboys, the band started releasing songs in 1984.

Bailey played in the band's first two albums, "A Bit of What You Fancy" and "Bitter Sweet & Twisted." The band, however, went on a hiatus a decade later and returned in 2001 without Bailey.

In 2022, the late guitarist reconnected with Spike following the vocalist's firing from The Quireboys. The band's original members reunited for a one-off show in December as "Quireboys."
