Metallica members James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett remembered their late bandmate, Cliff Burton, decades after his death.

The heavy metal band is keeping the spotlight after it released its most recent album, "72 Seasons." It serves as its 11th studio album among the music projects it made within 42 years since Hetfield founded the band.

With its success, Metallica also takes late member, Cliff Burton, in its legacy.

James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett Say They Miss Late Metallica Member Cliff Burton

The two Metallica members recently had an interview with Kerrang! Radio during which the interviewer asked them the moment they wanted to be included in a film.

Hammett immediately responded that a Metallica movie could have highlighted the first three or four years of the band's career, with Cliff Burton being a member to be included more.

However, they did not have enough footage or pictures of him due to his untimely death in 1986 - only four years since Burton was asked to join Metallica.

"If there's one thing that I actually have regret about, it's not documenting Cliff enough. But, you know, back then, we didn't know that it would be the situation that it is now. And so it would have been weird to say: 'Okay, Cliff, come here. We're just gonna film you,'" he went on.

Hammett also recounted Burton's life and how he loved beer and breakfast when he was still alive.

Meanwhile, Hetfield added to Hammett's recollection and said that the late member loved fishing and that he carried a hammer in his suitcase.

After sharing their memories with Burton, both Metallica members expressed how they miss him to this day.

How Did Metallica's Cliff Burton Die?

Burton officially joined Metallica in 1982 after the band sent him an invitation when he saw him perform with his then-group, Trauma. At that time, he did not want to move to Los Angeles where the "Enter Sandman" hitmaker was based.

With that, the band moved to the San Francisco area so he could join them.

Burton played in Metallica's first three studio albums - "Kill 'Em All," "Ride The Lightning," and "Master of Puppets." Unfortunately, his career with the band was cut short four years later after he passed away on Sep. 27, 1986, amid the European leg of the Damage, Inc. tour.

At that time, Metallica's tour bus crashed when the driver lost control. Burton was thrown out of its window before the vehicle rolled over him.

His tragic death left Hetfield, Hammett, and Lars Ulrich devastated and angry that they immediately tried to find the driver to know whether he was under the influence.

Metallica soon moved on with Jason Newsted, who played with them until 2001, and Robert Trujillo, who remains in the band after he joined in 2003.
