Over ten years ago, McFly, a popular boy band from the 2000s, rejected what would have been the biggest gig of their career which is competing at the Eurovision; what made them turn down the offer?

Speaking to Metro UK, the band, consisting of Danny Jones, Harry Judd, Dougie Poynter, and Tom Fletcher, said they were "pursued" for one of the biggest singing competition in the world but they had to reject it because it "wasn't right" for them.

At the time, the group has been in the music industry for years now, but Judd said it would be more appropriate if newer artists who are waiting to be discovered are the ones to compete.

"It's a great platform, you get seen by European countries - I guess never say never," he added. (via Gladstone Dispatch)

McFly New Album

Despite turning down the offer over a decade ago, it didn't stop the band from being famous in the music scene as they are now focused on releasing their upcoming album, which is different from what they were releasing back in the day.

Dougie Poynter explained that during the early stages of the record, when they wrote around three to four songs, their producer "kind of laughed," saying the ideas they came up with were "very boring."

He later asked them to conceptualize again and write everything they love about their band, and it was their live shows.

"the fact we don't take ourselves too seriously, guitar solos, air drumming, loads of fun live s***. We took it from there and landed at 80s rock," the singer added.

Speaking about their previous album "Young Dumb Thrills," Harry Judd noted that the songs they produced were "all good" but admitted that there is no "sense of identity" or branding about who they were as a group.

The band's new album "Power to Play" will be available for streaming on major music platforms online starting on June 9, 2023.
