Joni Mitchell confirmed the release of her upcoming new live album months after her surprise comeback appearance.

For the past few years, Mitchell has been enduring multiple health issues that affected her supposed appearances and concerts. But despite the setbacks, her previous surprise comeback appearance led her to record her upcoming live album.

Joni Mitchell To Release New Album

In July 2022, Mitchell held a surprise concert at Newport Folk Festival. Nearly a year after the event, the singer confirmed that her set at the event would be part of her new live album, "Joni Mitchell at Newport."

In a press release shared by Pitchfork, Cameron Crowe - who wrote the liner notes in the album - detailed what Mitchell did at the festival as part of the upcoming summer album.

"Smiling broadly, Mitchell made her surprise appearance, taking her on-stage seat alongside Carlile," part of the notes read. "Within minutes, the news had rocketed around the globe. Mitchell was back, sparkling with enthusiasm."

Mitchell appeared at the Newport Folk Festival alongside Lucius, Wynonna Judd, Marcus Mumford, and Brandi Carlile, among others.

Aside from her music project, "The Circle Game" hitmaker will perform with Carlile for another Joni Jam on June 10 at the Gorge Amphitheater.

The singer lost her ability to do her daily activities after the health scare, and she had to learn how to walk again.

She has also been open about her Morgellons Disease, which is currently referred to as a "controversial" disease due to lack of details and information in the medical field.
