Bob Dylan and The Band's legendary The Basement Tapes is one of the most revered albums in rock history, a rough collection of basement-recorded originals, covers, and traditional songs that helped popularize Americana music. Though the original 1975 version of the album features 24 tracks, today it was announced that Dylan will be releasing the complete, 138-track sessions as a part of his Bootleg album series on Nov. 4
The Basement Tapes Complete: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11 will be released as a six-disc box set, featuring alternate versions of songs that appeared on the original album, as well as covers of songs by Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Curtis Mayfield, and more. Though it was known that Dylan and The Band recorded over 100 songs during the Basement Tapes sessions in 1967, this new box-set includes 30 tracks that were previously unknown to have existed. One of these new tracks, an alternate version of "Odds & Ends," can be heard right now over at Rolling Stone.
The album' deluxe edition will come with a 120-page book of liner notes and previously unseen photographs. For those who like Bob Dylan but don't feel like they need to hear all 138 songs in the set, however, an abridged two-disc (three LP) version titled The Basement Tapes Raw will also be released, with a relatively palatable 38 tracks.
