Though Ryan Adams is known primarily as an alternative country artist, he's occasionally branched out into some decidedly non-country genres, including heavy metal and punk. On Sunday, Adams shared one of these genres experiments online, posting his recent punk EP 1984 in its entirety on Youtube, which you can check out below.
Originally released on Aug. 19 as a 10-song seven-inch record, Adams described 1984 as an "homage to the halcyon days of the earliest releases from Dischord, SST, Touch & Go and their ilk." He should have probably included Twin/Tone on that list as well, since the 30-minute record sounds a lot like the Replacements' early albums, particularly 1981's Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash.
This isn't the first time that Ryan Adams has ventured into punk rock. On Record Store Day 2013, he released a seven-track EP titled 7 Minutes In Heaven with his punk trio Pornography.
Adams' next release will be his self-titled full-length album, his 14th overall, which is set for release on Sept. 9 and will feature more traditionally Ryan Adams-y songs.
