The 21st season of "American Idol" will present its top three contestants in the upcoming finale. The episode will air live on Sunday on ABC.

Keith Urban Comments on "American Idol" Return

The 55-year-old country musician recently appeared in an exclusive interview with People during which he shared his current thoughts ahead of his upcoming return to "American Idol." He is also set to perform his hit song, "Wild Hearts."

The "Blue Ain't Your Color" singer expressed his excitement as he looks forward to returning to the singing competition show years after his last appearance as a judge on season 15.

"To be able to come in as a mentor, and play as well, is incredible," he said. "That was home for me for several seasons, and the mentoring part is probably one of the things I always enjoyed the most, getting to work with the artist one-on-one."

Urban will mentor "American Idol" top three contestants - Colin Stough, Iam Tongi, and Megan Danielle - who vie to become the next American Idol. He revealed that the trio are already ready for the finale, applauding them for their singing skills.

He also opened up about the contestants being open to comments to improve themselves before the final show. Still, he reminded everyone how important it is for an artist to know what advice to take and what not to accept since not all "guidance" helps.

Why Keith Urban Wants To Perform 'Wild Hearts' Revealed

The "Only You Can Love Me This Way" singer released a number of songs throughout his active career years. But among the music projects he worked on, he chose "Wild Hearts" as his performance during the finale.

Urban explained that the song's lyrics fit the contestants' journey; at the same time, the singer aims to perform with his band again.

He added that the same song would also inspire viewers who would tune in to the upcoming finale.

"American Idol" viewers will see the current judges - Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie - as they also take the stage alongside the Top 12 contestants. The show also announced the appearances of Ellie Goulding, Jazmine Sullivan, James Blunt, and Kylie Minogue, among others.
