Just as Josh Freese was announced to be taking over the drums for The Foo Fighters, it has been revealed that Dave Grohl, who was famously Nirvana's drummer, did take up the drums at one point for Foo Fighter's new album, "But Here We Are."

Freese was announced as the touring drummer for Foo Fighters, despite conversations that Rufus Tiger Taylor will be taking over. The search for the next Foo Fighters drummer came after the late Taylor Hawkins passed away in 2022.

Dave Grohl Drums for Foo Fighters New Album

According to Loudwire, the information was revealed during the performance from 606 Studios where Josh Freese and Dave Grohl was talking about drumming at one point on the new song "Nothing At All"

"When you explained the beat on the record and you're like, 'I think I played it with one hand,' and I'm kinda doing the same thing. It feels good and sounds cool, you know?" he asked Grohl.

In response, Grohl replied and told him it was "unintentional." He began explaining that when he demoed the song in his house, he was just woken up and tired and began drumming on his "shitty drum set" which "kinda sounded better."

"You're not hitting the hi-hat and the snare at the same time, so it sort of has more space, he continued.

Dave Grohl Drumming Before Taylor Hawkins

The publication also noted that the entire time Grohl was in Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins pretty much took over the drumming aspect, as he bequeathed it already upon the drumming legend's arrival.

Apparently, the last time Grohl took credit was on "Cold Day In The Sun" from the 2005 hit album "In Your Honor." During the first few years of Foo Fighters, it was Grohl drumming at certain parts. That is why, he was credited on the band's self-titled debut album.

Hawkins, on the other hand, only joined the group after the second album, "The Colour and The Shape," was recorded. He took over the dismissed drummer William Goldsmith. Since then, the late Hawkins pretty much owned the spot. Hawkins passed away on Mar. 25, 2023, in a hotel room in Bogota, Colombia. A toxicology report found that there were 10 substances in his body before his death.
