The Primetime Emmy-winning mystery comedy-drama "Only Murders In The Building" has been confirmed to be getting a musical episode in its third season! "Some Like It Hot" creators Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman confirmed the news months after the third season drops in August 2023.

Shaiman and Whitman are musical geniuses, they were also the one who put up "Hairspray" on Broadway and now, the most-nominated musical at the 2023 Tony Awards - "Some Like It Hot."

'Only Murders In The Building' Musical Episode Confirmed

Speaking to Variety, Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman confirmed that they worked on the Season 3 of "Only Murders In The Building."

"We're not allowed to say anything more than that, but you could probably do that math," they sparingly teased.

Shaiman and Whitman were behind the Broadway musicals "Hairspray" and "Some Like It Hot," with the former winning Best Musical in 2003 and the latter pressed to win this year.

Notably, Martin Short worked with Shaiman and Whitman already on "Hairspray Live!" when the actor-singer played Wilbur Turnblad on the star-studded live-television adaptation. In the series, a musical episode would weave perfectly on Short's character Oliver Putnam, an ambitious but financially struggling Broadway director.

At the end of Season 2, Oliver successfully mounted his own Broadway play, but to their horror, Paul Rudd's character Ben Glenroy, died on the opening night.

The cast, on the other hand, is packed with talent that could surely pull off a musical episode.

Steve Martin is a five-time Grammy-winning singer and Martin Short is a Tony-winning actor in "Little Men." Paul Rudd and Jesse Williams could both pull a note as we all know that Meryl Streep can sing. We might not have to worry about Selena Gomez too as she has proven with her plethora of awards and arena-filling shows that she can sing.

As of this writing, details whether who will sing or what would prompt the series to have a musical episode has not yet been revealed. "Only Murders In The Building" Season 3 will arrive on Aug. 3, 2023.
