Tupac Shakur will receive another recognition 26 years after he was murdered.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame confirmed the upcoming ceremony to honor Shakur 26 years after his death in 1996. The event will allow the organization to formally give the late rapper his own star on Hollywood's famous street.

Tupac Shakur To Be Honored With a Posthumous Star

The ceremony will happen on June 7, with Shakur's sister, Sekyiwa "Set" Shakur to accept the star on his behalf. Meanwhile, Big Boy has been tapped to emcee the event.

According to the official announcement, as shared by People, Shakur-centered TV documentary series "Dear Mama" director Allen Hughes and Jamal Joseph will serve as guest speakers.

Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said in a statement that the rapper's star is expected to be added to its list of most visited stars.

"Tupac Shakur was a rapper, actor, activist, poet, and revolutionary," the producer said. "This iconic artist has continued to be part of the zeitgeist for decades after his passing and will continue to be an important cultural figure for many years to come."

Shakur will be the 2,758th person to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Oakland Street Named After Tupac Shakur

The announcement from the Hollywood Walk of Fame came after Council member Carroll Fife pitched the idea to Oakland's City Council (via Hot New Hiphop) that a portion between Grand Avenue and Van Buren Avenue should be named "Tupac Shakur Way."

Oakland's City Council approved the idea after previously creating Tupac Shakur Day.

Fife said in a resolution that the recognition would continue Shakur's legacy and remind everyone of his contributions when he was still alive and even after his death. The council member also expressed her loss that the rapper was "taken too young by gun violence."

The city previously named a street after Too $hort in 2022.

Shakur died on Sep. 13, 1996, at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, days after he was shot during a drive-by shooting. The shooting incident happened after he and some of his entourage had a violent fight with a man, who was later identified as a member of the Crips street gang based in Los Angeles.

Police confirmed that at least 12 shots were fired; four of which hit the rapper and caused his death.
