Comedian Fred Armisen's list of cool indie rock friends is pretty long, and one of his most frequent collaborators is Dinosaur Jr. singer/guitarist J Mascis. The two have appeared together on Portlandia, Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Seth Meyers (where Armisen is the bandleader), and today, Mascis shared the music video for his latest single "Every Morning" through Funny or Die, featuring an appearance by Armisen, which you can check out below.

The video is shot in a gritty found-footage style, and stars Mascis as the leader of the Space Children of the Forest hippie cult, which apparently "mysteriously disappeared" back in 1974 (at least according to the video's intro). The cult spends the first half of the video doing weird hippie stuff, but Armisen shows up about halfway through to offer a presentation about how Mascis is a fake and how computers are the "wave of the future." Since it's from Funny or Die, it's pretty funny stuff.

The video also features an appearance by Shins/Broken Bells frontman (and Armisen's fellow Portland resident) James Mercer, who plays one of Mascis' cult members.

"Every Morning" is featured on Mascis' new solo album Tied To A Star, which was released on Monday (Aug. 25) through Sub Pop Records. It is Mascis' first solo album since 2011's Several Shades of Why, and based on this single, it seems to continue with that album's more acoustic vibe, as opposed to the blown-out noise pop of Dinosaur Jr.
