Michael Jackson's "real, deep voice" has been the subject of buzz over the past few years after a 1997 video clip resurfaced.

The late King of Pop was known for his four-octave vocal range and his soft voice during his interviews. However, fans became confused as a compilation video of him where he "accidentally" spoke with his unusual, much-lower register emerged.

Michael Jackson's Voice Was Deep?

Fans started looking for more evidence that Jackson's real voice was deep when they saw the 1997 clip of the late singer singing "In the Closet" during the Copenhagen stop of his HIStory world tour.

While he started off with his notable falsetto, he suddenly changed his voice and spoke "One thing in life you must understand" using his normal voice. A Reddit thread also collected comments from surprised fans who claimed that Jackson sounded like a completely different person.

There are more videos online that captured his deep, regular voice, leading people to ask why his voice sounded like that.

Meanwhile, WHO Australia noted that it remains unknown whether he used his deeper voice in private, but several theories surfaced to explain why he kept his soft, high-pitched voice.

Why Did Michael Jackson Never Use Real Voice?

Jackson never addressed the issue before his death, but multiple media outlets assumed that his father, Joe, forced "chemical castration" upon the "Thriller" singer to maintain his high-pitched voice.

According to The Mirror, the late King of Pop revealed to his doctor, Conrad Murray, that he used to receive hormone injections as a teenager. The convicted doctor first shared the revelation in his 2016 self-published book, "This Is It! The Secret Lives of Dr. Conrad Murray and Michael Jackson."

"I often saw Jackson at his most exposed and confessional. He only agreed to share after making me swear, 'You will never breathe a word. Never,'" he wrote. "I agreed. I was shocked when Jackson told me. It would explain all of Michael's unusual behavior as well as his morphological changes."

Even Jackson's pals Liza Minnelli and David Gest supported the claims and said the singer truly did not talk like that. Court TV's Diane Dimond also said in 2005 that the singer had a "big, deep" sound, with Piers Morgan hearing how Jackson slipped his secret tones during a telephone interview.

While Michael Jackson's real voice remains a mystery, Minnelli and Gest believed that their late pal opted to have that persona to "protect himself" after suffering and being hurt for years.
