Former Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey chose Axl Rose to sing the band's songs if ever there would be a Peter Steele tribute concert.

Thirteen years after the Type O Negative frontman died, talks about a tribute concert reemerged as the band and its fans want to honor Steele and his legacy in a special way. The late singer died in April 2010 after developing sepsis due to diverticulitis, but his cause of death was initially reported as heart failure.

Kenny Hickey Wants Axl Rose To Sing at Peter Steele Tribute Concert

Among the thousands of vocalists around the globe, the former Type O Negative guitarist selected the Guns N' Roses frontman to sing their band's hit songs at a hypothetical tribute concert.

In a recent interview with Scott Penfold of Loaded Radio, Hickey was asked about the potential reunion of Type O Negative surviving members to create a Peter Steele tribute concert. According to the guitarist, several people had already approached them and asked them to reform the band.

However, they have since rejected the idea despite the group's lasting popularity as they do not think Steele can be replaced by anybody. Thus, they are sure it would not work if ever they reform the band.

Still, he revealed that they are open to having a tribute show with Johnny Kelly on drums but without Josh Silver as the keyboardist is busy doing his work as a paramedic.

While Kelly wanted Ann Wilson to sing Steele's parts in the potential tribute concert, Hickey did not approve of it and chose Axl Rose instead.

"Ann Wilson would be great, but she probably never heard of us," the guitarist said. "[I would choose] Axl Rose as it would be very f**ing cool to hear him sing a song like 'Love You To Death.'"

Will There Be a Peter Steele Tribute Concert?

Type O Negative band members have been wanting to honor Steele in a tribute show. However, Kelly disclosed in a separate interview that there was never a serious consideration to do it.

Instead of celebrating the late frontman at the concert, Kelly noted that people celebrate Steele all the time since his death.

Steele, whose real name was Petrus T. Ratajczyk, died in 2010 following an apparent heart failure. However, the reports afterward said the rock star died from sepsis caused by diverticulitis.
