According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo will be the subject of a new sitcom on Fox, titled DeTour. The pilot script will be written by Psych creator Steve Franks, and is inspired by Cuomo's experiences attending Harvard following Weezer's mid-90s commercial breakthrough.

As described by THR, Franks pitched the plot of DeTour as "the story of a 30-something rock star who, unable to rationalize his success and worried that he may not have the tools to repeat it, walks away from the spotlight at the height of his fame in an effort to rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he way busy becoming a massive success."

In the wake of Weezer's multi-platinum debut album in 1994, Cuomo attended Harvard University to study English, where he continued to study over the next 11 years in between Weezer's albums and tours. Some of his experiences at Harvard were famously recounted in some songs off of Weezer's classic sophomore album Pinkerton, including the singles "El Scorcho" and "Pink Triangle."

THR continues to say, "DeTour would embellish his journey with a fictional character and the small band of misfit friends that make it possible for him to get through his formative years."

Fox has committed to a DeTour put-pilot, which means that it has already agreed to air the pilot, even before it's been written. The format of the show is single-camera, as opposed to a three-camera sitcom filmed in front of an audience.

Weezer's next album, Everything Will Be Alright In The End, is set for release on Oct. 7. It will be the band's ninth studio album, its first since 2010's Hurley.
