Fans have been vibing to Michael Jackson's music catalog throughout the decades. It only proves that his songs are timeless as one of his tracks, originally released in the 90s, is deemed relevant by social media users as it mirrors what's happening in society in the present.

According to NewsWeek, the King of Pop's 1995 track "They Don't Care About Us" is making waves around the internet as online users pointed out that the meaning of the song's lyrics is still relatable even decades after dropping.

The 28-year-old song is from the album "HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I." Although it wasn't as popular as MJ's other hit singles like "Billie Jeans," "Thriller," and more, it was able to peak at number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

At the time of its release, the outlet noted that the song was indeed controversial as it opened up the conversation surrounding "woke" culture.

"They Don't Care About Us" was controversial due to its lyrics, and at the time, Michael Jackson was even accused of antisemitism, leading him to apologize and re-record the entire track by changing its words.

However, he defended himself, saying that some people misinterpreted the context of the original version.

The song had two music videos, which was both directed by Spike Lee. The visuals were filmed in Pelourinho in Salvador and Santa Marta (a favela or working-class neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro) in Brazil.

At the time of filming, the musician had a problem as state authorities attempted to halt the production. They didn't want their reputation to be tarnished due to the city being a prospect of the Olympics.

However, the plans were able to push through and he successfully filmed the music video along with people who are living in the area, which were visibly happy in the music video and Jackson wanted to share the problems of the area with the international scene.

In addition, the second video was more intense as it was filmed in a prison that also featured references to human rights abuses.
