For most people growing up, they have associated Aqua's "Barbie Girl" with "Barbie," and while a large part of it was actually about the doll, Mattel and the Danish pop group had an entire lawsuit about it. Eventually, the two made amends, and "Barbie Girl" has been used by the toy company in the latter years.

However, many fans were heartbroken when Aqua announced that the song would not be used in the new "Barbie" movie that Greta Gerwig is directing and Margot Robbie is starring. That's when the Academy Award-nominated actress comes into play.

Margot Robbie Begged For 'Barbie Girl' To Be Included On 'Barbie'

According to an exclusive interview on Rolling Stone, Robbie detailed how "Barbie Girl" was added to the final "Barbie" soundtrack.

Per the publication, Robbie along with other members of the production and the cast have been "begging" for the song to be included; and thankfully, Gerwig was down for it.

"I was like, 'Greta, how are we going to incorporate this song? We can't do a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua's 'Barbie Girl.' It has to be in there.' And [Greta] was like, 'Don't worry, we're going to find a cool way to incorporate it,' " Robbie revealed.

Eventually, Gerwig, Atlantic Records, and Mark Ronson found a way to do it. "Barbie World" was added as one of the songs for the "Barbie" movie soundtrack, and Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice were tapped for it.

The Queen of Rap has been rapping and referring to herself as Barbie ever since her mixtape era. In fact, Mattel even gave Nicki Minaj her own Barbie. So it was actually a long-awaited match made in heaven that Nicki Minaj was included in the soundtrack. "Barbie World" samples the 1997 hit song "Barbie Girl" along with the new Princess of Pop, Ice Spice.

Eventually, after the tidbit was revealed to Gerwig, she immediately told Robbie.

"And then, when she was like, 'Guess who's going to do the remix of Aqua's "Barbie Girl"? Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice.' I was like, 'Together? Are you joking?!' I just knew immediately that all my girlfriends were going to lose their minds," Robbie happily recalled.

According to Mark Ronson, the executive producer of the "Barbie" movie soundtrack, getting Minaj for the record "seemed like a no-brainer."

"I feel like people have been asking Nicki to rhyme over some version of 'Barbie Girl' for 15 years now," Ronson said.
