Thanks to Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs, two country songs have topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts again after 42 years.

The two country music superstars were the second duo since Eddie Rabbitt and Dolly Parton ruled the genre-blending singles chart in 1981.

Morgan Wallen 'Last Night'

According to Billboard, "Last Night," the lead single from Morgan Wallen's "One Thing At A Time," has held its spot at the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Luminate reported that the song has racked 72.2 million radio airplay impressions and almost 30 million streams. It also sold 7,000 downloads, which saw a decline of 3% compared to last year.

It is now the song's 12th week on the chart and concurrently, it leads the Streaming Songs Chart with 14 weeks. As for the Radio Songs Charts and Digital Song Sales, it ranks No. 4 and No. 2, respectively.

In an unprecedented 20 weeks at the top of the chart, Morgan Wallen's "Last Night" still rules over the Hot Country Songs chart. The song also dominates the Country Airplay charts for 8 weeks as it also charts within the Top 10 of both Adult Pop Airplay and Pop Airplay.

Meanwhile, the album, "One Thing At A Time," also holds the fort with 14 nonconsecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart. It joins a rare league of longest singles with its parent album topping both the Hot 100 and 200 charts simultaneously.

Bee Gees, Yvonne Elliman, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson, were the only few artists who were able to pull those off.

Luke Combs 'Fast Car'

As for the second spot, Luke Combs' cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" reached a new peak of No. 2 on the Hot 100 charts. It generated 1.3 million radio impressions and 21.3 million streams with 10,000 digital copies sold.

"Fast Cars," together with "Last Night" follows country music legends Eddie Rabbitt and Dolly Parton's back-to-back country music domination in 1981.

Rabbit's "I Love a Rainy Night" and Parton's "9 to 5" ruled the Hot 100 charts respectively on the Feb. 21 and 28, 1981-dated chart. According to the publication, this country music genre feat further proves that the genre has been one of the most prominent in this decade, joining pop, R&B, and hip hop, among many others.
