BLACKPINK has enjoyed a successful career since they debuted back in 2016, there was no question or doubt whether this group would make it big worldwide.

BLACKPINK is a KPOP girl group that is composed of four members: Jisoo, Rose, Jennie, and Lisa. They debuted under the label and talent agency, YG Entertainment, the same company that debuted other successful KPOP groups like 2NE1, BIGBANG, iKON, and more.

This year alone has brought in so much recognition towards BLACKPINK, KPOP, and South Korea: they headlined Coachella, BST Hyde Park Festival, numerous Guinness World Records under Lisa's belt, and so on.

Did BLACKPINK Pave The Way?

When asked about their milestones in an interview with Elle Korea, Jisoo admitted that BLACKPINK has contributed to the rising popularity of KPOP, but cannot be credited solely for paving the way.

"Maybe half and half?" Jisoo pondered. "We also walked the path that others have made, but I think there are parts that we pioneered, as we debuted at a time when the platform was expanding and accessibility to K-pop was increasing."

The KPOP idol went on to explain how the road they traversed as they grew in success and popularity was already there, thanks to other KPOP idols who debuted earlier and became huge internationally, but BLACKPINK continued it, and polished it.

"Just as there was a part where we walked on a polished road," Jisoo explained. "I hope we can help make the path of those who will come after us smoother.

"It would be nice if they could pioneer their own thing and connect with each other. Anyway, that's a nice expression."

Lisa won and broke several new Guinness World Records by being the KPOP idol with the most Instagram followers, the first solo KPOP star to win an MTV Music Award, as well as an MTV European Music Award.
