Shawn Peter Raul Mendes was born on August 8, 1998 in Pickering, Ontario, Canada. Shawn self-learned how to play the guitar at 14 years old. Likewise, Shawn sang in his school's glee club and enrolled in acting lessons when he was still a teenager. As per All Music, after Mendes posted a couple of cover songs on different video sharing online platforms starting in 2013, the then aspiring singer acquired a loyal mini fan base.
How Shawn Mendes Started His Music Career
Shawn's performance of his own cover version of A Great Big World's "Say Something" won Ryan Seacrest's cover song contest in April 2014. After a month moving forward, Mendes signed on for a record contract with Island records.

On June 2014, Shawn's 15-year old debut single, "Life of the Party" was released. Initially, American radio didn't prioritize playing this song. However, though, "Life of the Party" peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. Thus, this feat made Mendes the youngest artist to have their first single released peak at the top 25 of the Billboard Hot 100.
"Life of the Party" is also inclusive in Shawn's four track Island records debut called, "The Shawn Mendes EP." This EP, too, fared well on the chart, having reached number five on the BIllboard charts. This EP served as a preview for what's to come as Shawn released his debut album, 2015's "Handwritten."
"Handwritten" entered the number one chart in the US, Canada, and Norway. Shawn's first US top ten hit was his thrid single, "Stitches." "Stitches" reached the number four spot of the US chart. "Believe" is Shawn's song that was inclusive of the soundtrack for the Disney channel fantasy musical, "Descendants."
While Shawn was opening for Taylor Swift for her North American 1989 World tour, Shawn and Fifth Harmony's Camilla Cabello worked on the song called, "I Know What You Did Last Summer." This song was included in the deluxe album version of "Handwritten."
The Latest Update on Shawn Mendes' Love Life
Things have not been easy on Shawn when it comes to managing his love life, after he and Camilla Cabello broke up. Sometime in between his on and off romance with Camilla, Shawn allegedly dated Sabrina Carpenter on March 2023, as per Thethings.com. Currently, Shawn is rumored to be dating a Toronto-based female lawyer.
