The first track from Julian Casablancas' new project — Tyranny with The Voidz — is now available for your listening pleasure.

"Human Sadness" is an 11-minute trek through a sonic landscape that offers plenty of Strokes-ready soundbites. This comes as no surprise, given that Casablancas writes much of his primary band's music, but The Voidz help him explore a soundscape that calls to mind Sufjan Stevens' The Age Of Adz.

As Stereogum puts it: "The guy who made his name writing brilliant compact ditties built from carefully assembled moving parts is now letting it all hang out, for one song at least."

Here's the track in full...

Tyranny is due for a Sept. 23 release. In addition to standard physical and digital formats, the album will be available for pre-order on cassette and as a cigarette lighter (which is actually a USB drive in a lighter sleeve), Consequence of Sound points out.
