Jimmy Buffett had worked in the music industry for decades before his death, that's why many fans and fellow artists mourned when reports of him passing away made rounds online.

Since then, many legendary musicians have paid tribute to the singer, but in a never-before-released interview with Rolling Stone, Buffett revealed how he'd like to be remembered by the public after his death.

Speaking with the outlet in 2020, which is now being published for the first time, the singer simply wanted to be remembered as someone who put smiles on other people's faces.

"I'd say "He had a good time and made a lot of people happy" would be good. Yeah, that'd be good," he said.

There was also one moment when he was asked about the line from his song which reads "live like it's your last day" was good advice for people, he noted that he tends to live like it was his last day because it's uncertain.

"You never know. At 73, we're not getting any younger, is one thing. We're losing a lot of friends, and it's a constant progression towards what's there," he said at the time.

Jimmy Buffett Death: Singer's Final Days Filled With Joy

The recent news comes after the singer's sister Laurie Buffett McGuane and her husband Tom McGuane, spoke with People Magazine to share details about her brother's final days.

He told the outlet that the singer "remained the same" during the last month of his life.

It also appears that the musician was in good spirits despite his health battles as the couple noted that his "sense of humor was fully intact."

Laurie added that during the singer's final days, she and their other sibling Lucy remained by his side and they just looked back at their memories of when they were kids.

Jimmy Buffett Cause of Death

According to USA Today, Jimmy Buffet's cause of death was Merkel cell skin cancer, he had battled the illness for four years before he passed away.

Despite his health and treatments, the singer was still able to perform along with Mac McAnally in early July.

It was noted that the singer, who was 76 at the time, died "peacefully" at his home in Sag Harbor in Long Island, New York while being surrounded by some of his closest friends and family members.
