How Wiz Khalifa Started His Music Career

During Wiz's teen years, he recorded music at a local recording studio called, I.D. Labs. Wiz was an exceptional performer amongst the regular acts in the said studio. As such, the I.D. Labs' staff opened up Wiz to the opportunities of having access to free beats and free recording time. Not too long afterwards, the lab's staff members introduced Wiz to Benjy Grinberg. Grinberg was a former executive assistant to L.A. Reid at Arista.

At that time, Grinberg began to operate a new independent label, Rostrum records. As a Rostrum records artist, Khalifa made a name for himself in Pittsburgh with some singles released. Khalifa gained national popularity when he released his first mixtape, "Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania" in the initial part of 2006. Khalifa released his independent debut album during the latter part of 2006 called, "Show and Prove."
