Kent Stax, popularly known for being the drummer of Scream for the longest time, has passed away just 24 hours after the group announced their new album; how did the musician die?

The tragic news was confirmed through the group's official Instagram account where they shared an old photo of him smoking a cigarette.

It was stated that the drummer died after battling metastatic cancer.

"Kent is the original heartbeat of Scream. Though we have had to continue on without him before, we have always known Kent is irreplaceable," the band continued.

His bandmates further noted that Stax, whose real name was Bennett Kent Stacks, was one of a kind and aside from being a talented drummer, he also did other jobs like fishing, carpenting, and he was said to be an enthusiast when it comes to trains.

In addition to Scream, the late drummer also played on other bands throughout his career like The Suspects, Alleged Bricks, Spitfires United, and more.

Kent Stax Dead: Drummer's Legacy With Scream

According to Stereogum, the late musician joined Scream just after they were founded in 1979. His bandmates were Pete and Franz Stahl, and Enoch Thompson, also known as "Skeeter."

Stax was able to contribute on the group's first three albums from 1983 to 1986. The last record he did with them was "Banging The Drum" before he decided to quit.

After he left, a 17-year-old Dave Grohl, now the frontman of Foo Fighters, took over the drumkit for a short while until Scream disbanded which led the legend to travel to Seattle and join Nirvana.

Scream NEW Album Announced 1 Day Before Kent Stax Death

Kent Stax's death came just a day after Scream announced their first album in over 30 years titled "DC Special."

According to American Songwriter, the new record will feature 12 songs and the classic lineup of the group were able contribute, including Stax.

In addition, Dave Grohl will also make a big comeback with the group as he had been credited as one of the featured collaborators along with Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat and Fugazi, and many more.

The band also wanted to make a big comeback by giving surprises to their fans as the LP will also feature six additional tracks using a download code.
