Are Daft Punk splitting up? No, not really, but there are rumors floating of a solo project in the works from member Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. We must advise, as does Spin in its own coverage, that the report comes from a French independent magazine, Tsugi, and the following quote has been roughly translated to English:

"One half of Daft Punk, Guy-Manuel Homem-Christo, is currently registering a solo album in the near western suburbs of Paris," the publication reports. "Of course, no release date has yet been scheduled, but what is already known is that it will be full of guests on this album vocal solo, including the presence of Charlotte Gainsbourg."

It's tough to prove or disprove this one. After all, Daft Punk hasn't been heard from since its performance and Album of The Year acceptance at The Grammys in January. For a band that has managed to keep its face hidden for so long, hiding a solo project doesn't seem like a big deal. And de Homem-Christo has dabbled away from Daft Punk plenty in the past, producing for other performers and working with Crydamoure Records founder Eric Chedeville under the alias Le Knight Club

In other words, this is nothing to worry about for Daft Punk fans. Considering that the duo only release an album every four-to-eight years or so, it might be nice to have some new music from de Homem-Christo to fill the gap. Of course we wouldn't say no to a more extended Daft Punk world tour either.
