Sting Bio 

Gordon Matthew Thomas or Gordon Sumner (professionally known as Sting) was born on October 2, 1951 in Wallsend, Tyne and Ware, England. Sting was raised in the surroundings of shipyards in Wallsend, Northumberland, England, as the eldest son of a milkman father and a hairdresser mother. 

It took a long time, though, for Sting to follow his heart and pursue his passion for music. However, the singer had been interested in music even as a young child, as per All Music. Strangely, Sting worked unique jobs prior to earning an education degree in college. Sting worked as a jazz musician simultaneously that he worked as a teacher in Cramlington's St. Paul's First School. As a jazz musician, Sting played bass with the Newcastle Big Band and the Phoenix Jazzmen. 

Sting became notable for putting on yellow and black sweaters while he performed during this time. Thus, co-musician and bandleader, Gordon Solomon gave him the nickname, "Sting." 

How Sting Started His Music Career 

Sting began to hone his skill as a songwriter via joining the jazz group, Last Exit. Via this group, the musician eventually shifted to venturing into the rock music genre. Sting subsequently joined various multiple bands, of notable to mention was The Police. Sting and The Police made a mark in releasing hit songs and albums. However, the group was active on an on-and-off basis. During one time that The Police broke up, Sting launced his debut solo music career, having released his solo debut album, "The Dream of the Blue Turtles" (1984).

Sting Hits and Accomplishments

Sting worked with Branford Marsalis, Kenny Kirkland, and Omar Hakim in the production of the former's debut solo album, "The Dream of the Blue Turtles." The two songs that were top ten hits in the US from Sting were "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" and "Fortress Around Your Heart." "We'll Be Together" was a Sting hit that reached the number seven spot of the US chart. Sting released his second solo album called, "Nothing Like the Sun" in 1987 upon the permanent disbandment of The Police. 

Sting Story of Rise to Stardom 

Sting's surprising rise to stardom breakthrough occurred during the release of The Police's single, "Roxanne." Considering Sting has been doing a solo music career for a long time, this fact may come off as a surprise to fans, as per The Things.
