Gwen Stefani discussed her experience with dyslexia when she was a teenager in a recent interview. She said it was something she struggled with at first until realizing that it is a superpower, after all.

In an interview with Variety that was published on Thursday, the 54-year-old singer admitted that she had a terrible first impression of her learning disability because it burdened her during her challenging high school years.

The No Doubt singer, who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, discussed how, over the course of her career as a musician, she grew to consider the condition as a "superpower." Stefani began by talking about how her dyslexia hindered her academic career and disclosed that the illness also had an impact on her social life. I disguised myself in a variety of ways. I barely graduated from college, so I don't really know how I made it through.

She recalled, "I tried as hard as I could, but I learnt differently.

The Grammy Award-winning musician also said that she felt frightened by her classmates as a result of the challenges imposed by dyslexia. She claimed, "I had to put in extra effort just to learn what everyone else picked up quickly."

Stefani admitted that although she "didn't know" she had a learning issue when she was a teenager, it wasn't until she was helping her kids with their dyslexia that she became aware of it.

The artist was married to Bush vocalist Gavin Rossdale from 2002 to 2016, and they had three children together: Kingston, 17; Zuma, 15; and Apollo, 9. The pop star continued by expressing her belief that her learning handicap has strengthened her songwriting skills.

She explained that dyslexia "made me able to problem-solve. When we write music, there's no mold. There's no one telling you to spell it like this or to put a paragraph here."

The judge for The Voice added, "You just say what you think, whatever you feel, and all of a sudden it's in a song. It speaks back to you, it feels you, and it's the greatest thing."

Stefani continued by talking about the new music she was producing, estimating that there were 30 tracks ready for release.

The artist did add, though, that she was only certain of a small number of her unheard songs. I am quite infatuated with approximately seven tunes.

Those are the ones I'm most eager to release, she remarked. This past June saw the introduction of True Babe, the songwriter's most recent hit.

The song was about Blake Shelton, Stefani's second spouse, whom she wed in 2021.
