Tim McGraw performing
When Tim McGraw performed "Shotgun Rider" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon back in February, Fallon introduced the song as being from his upcoming album, so it shouldn't be a big surprise that it would eventually become a single and now, that is just what has happened. "Shotgun Rider" is officially a new single. Granted, "Meanwhile Back at Mama's," the duet with wife Faith Hill, dropped first, but you had to know that anything performed on a show as big as The Tonight Show would eventually make it to single status.

The two singles aren't the only tunes from Sundown Heaven Town that Tim has been sharing before the September 16 release date. He told Rolling Stone Country that he's been test-driving about half of the new album on stage over the past several months. If you recall, two of the other tunes from the new release got pretty big debuts - McGraw debuted "Meanwhile Back at Mama's" on the ACM Awards and "City Lights" on The Voice (leading one to wonder if that will be the third single).

For Tim, the new single is about being happy riding shotgun with the person you're with. He shared, "This is one of those songs that really paints a picture and sets a mood. You look over and see the person that you love next to you sitting in the front seat, and you think, 'How good do I have it? Life is perfect.' There is a certain warmth to this song and several others like it that really establish the tone for the whole album."

If you could ride shotgun with any country artist for a day, who would it be? Share your pick in the comments section below.
