It has been a year since Megan Thee Stallion released a solo song, and now she is returning to the rap scene with her new single, "Cobra."

The past couple of years have been hard for the "Body" rapper as not only did she grapple with the trauma of being shot in the foot, but she also had to face her attacker, Tory Lanez, in court, as well as a legal dispute with her former record label 1501 Certified Entertainment.

Thee Stallion is reclaiming her power and moving on from her past with "Cobra," and that is exactly how she begins the music video.

"Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past over and over again," she says.

Thee Stallion raps about how the entire world watched her as she grappled with the troubles in her life and admitted to feeling depressed and turned to drinking to deal with it.

"Ayy, damn, I got problems/ Never thought a b***h like me would ever hit rock bottom," she raps.

"Lord, give me a break, I don't know how much more of this s**t I can take."

Megan Thee Stallion in Her Independent Era

According to reports, this is Thee Stallion's first independent release, following her exodus from 1501 Certified Entertainment.

Despite that, it is clear that the rapper pulled all the stops for the song as well as the music video.

"I have no label right now and we're doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion's pocket so the budget is coming from me," she announced,

"I'm so excited to be doing something for the first time independent since it was just me and my momma. It's really just me until we sign to a new label. I don't want to sign to a new label right now because I just want to do it myself."

According to reports, the legal dispute began when Thee Stallion filed a lawsuit, accusing her former label of fraud, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, and more.

Megan Thee Stallion New Music

While Thee Stallion has not explicitly said that she will be making a music comeback after this release, it seems like the rapper has taken to the idea of her producing all her projects moving forward.

"We're doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion's pockets. So, the budget is coming from me.

"Motherf**king Hot Girl Productions! The next shit y'all about to see is all straight from Megan Thee Stallion's brain and Megan Thee Stallion's wallet. We are in my pockets, hotties, so let's do our big one."
