Why did Robbie Williams leave the hugely successful group Take That?

In 1995, Williams left Take That, citing "a lack of communication" within the group as a factor in his decision. He launched his solo career after touring for the last time with his then-bandmates Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen.

Williams notably released his debut single, "Freedom" - a cover of George Michael's debut solo single.

The Reason Why Robbie Williams Left Take That Revealed

Ahead of the release of his Netflix documentary, fans assumed Williams might open up about his time with Take That and why he pursued a solo career.

Before the flick, the crooner already offered the answer in his interview with Scott Mills for BBC Radio 2's "Life Thru A Lens" series. The 49-year-old "Me and My Monkey" singer said he exited Take That while he was suffering from a nervous breakdown as he was overwhelmed while having the spotlight due to the band's then-ongoing world tour.

According to Williams, it felt like he needed to get out at that time.

"I think that I was in the middle of a nervous breakdown, my first of many," he said. "All the information going into the computer had made the computer overload. So it felt like I was in some sort of burning building and I needed to get out. That's how it felt at the time."

Williams also shocked everyone when he revealed that he told everyone that he would leave after the Nobody Else tour. However, his bandmates reportedly reacted by saying he could go as soon as possible instead if he was going to leave.

He found himself with the Take That members again in 2010 when they released an album and launched a tour. Although he had a feud with Gary, he said he would always be "family."

"I did things that I'm not proud of and said things I'm not proud of as a reaction to things that I hope he's not that proud of either," he went on. "That being said, taking the mickey out of Gary, he didn't deserve that."

Meanwhile, his three bandmates shared in an interview for the "In Take That: 30 Years in the Making" documentary that their lack of communication led things to fall apart between them.
