"I'm Just Ken" was one of the most beloved songs that came out in 2023 as it was among the official soundtrack of Greta Gerwig's highly-successful movie "Barbie." However, despite its popularity, the singer of the track Ryan Gosling won't stand any chance to earn a Grammy Award despite the song being nominated; what happened?

According to Billboard, the song was the actor's biggest moment in the movie but even though he gave his best vocally and even in acting, he's not among the nominees.

The Grammy Awards just released its complete list of nominees for next year's ceremony and "Barbie" the movie was expected to snag a few nominations given that the official soundtrack featured an array of musicians from different genres of music.

Composed by successful record producers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, the official soundtrack reached number two on the Billboard 200 and several singles made it to the Billboard Hot 100.

Some of the tracks that the public, especially TikTok, loved and used in almost video were "Barbie World" by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice with AQUA, "Dance the Night" by Dua Lipa, and "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish.

'I'm Just Ken' is Nominated but Ryan Gosling Isn't

The outlet noted that the track mentioned above were all nominated for a Grammy, including "I'm Just Ken," under the category of best song written for visual media category.

However, based on the guidelines of the Grammy Awards, this category is only for songwriters as a rule on their website says: "For a song (melody & lyrics) written specifically for a motion picture, television, video games or other visual media, and released for the first time during the Eligibility Year."

This meant Ryan Gosling will not be a part of the nominees as he only contributed his vocals and never got involved with the songwriting process.

Who Will Take the Grammy if 'I'm Just Ken' Wins?

If ever the track wins the category, the Grammy will be awarded to Andrew Wyatt and Mark Ronson.

A similar thing occured at the Oscars years ago when Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's track "Shallow" from the film "A Star is Born" won, Cooper didn't win anything despite contributing his vocals as he was not one of the songwriters.

Regardless, Ryan Gosling's efforts won't go to waste as he's projected to be one of the nominees for the Oscars next year.
