Maren Morris left the country music industry because of its toxicity and she's not holding back with her thoughts about the genre as she recently gave more details about her exit.

The musician recently spoke in an interview with Variety and noted that it was hard for her to fully separate from the genre itself because it was engraved to her as an artist and as a person.

Regardless, there was still a lot of negative connotation surrounding country music and she couldn't stand it anymore.

"I just got so sick of being a 'yes' person to get ahead... I've been successful, but - I think - at a moral cost. I couldn't keep doing the same song and dance," she said.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Morris credited some music acts like the Chicks and the Highwomen for being an inspiration to her to voice out her opinion about what she believes in even though it meant that she's turning her back against country music.
