Shawn "Clown" Crahan commented on Slipknot and Jay Weinberg's split over a month after the development happened.

Slipknot's co-founder and percussionist seemingly revealed the reason that pushed the band's breakup with Weinberg after years of performing together. While the group said the drummer left his spot, Weinberg dismissed the claims and said he was "heartbroken and blindsided to receive the phone call."

What Led to Slipknot, Jay Weinberg's Split Revealed

Speaking in a new interview with NME, Clown confirmed Weinberg did not leave the band - but Slipknot needed to move on.

"Like the statement said, we're choosing to do something different. This space that we're at right now is a very, very special space, thought about and generated mostly by the Ogs," he said, referring to himself, Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Sid Wilson and Mick Thomson lineup.

His comment resonated with Slipknot's statement when it made an announcement, thanking Weinberg for his dedication and passion for over a decade. According to the band, no one can ever replace Joey Jordison's original sound, style or energy.

It also declared that the band's intent is always evolving.

Weinberg played on ".5: The Gray Chapter," "We Are Not Your Kind" and "The End, So Far" before he was cut from the band.

Who Is Slipknot's New Drummer?

Ever since Slipknot made the announcement, questions about who will replace Weinberg emerged.

Several drummers were linked to the group, Simon Crahan, Stone Sour's Roy Mayorga and Joel Ekman, Corey Taylor's drummer Dustin Robert, SikTH's Dan Foord and Suffocation's Dave Culross.

However, Jeramie Kling - who recently left Venom Inc. - took the spotlight after a YouTube video by Tank the Tech shared the drummer's since-deleted post that featured a black image and a deep red Slipknot logo, with the caption, "Drumming is simply a matter of timing. Bring it to you. Invite the chaos."

Kling confirmed his split with Venom Inc., citing logistical issues. He started playing for the band in 2018 as a replacement for Abaddon and continued working with the bandmates until 2023.

Taylor eventually dismissed the claims on X, writing, "To everyone wondering about our new drummer... It's not him. Stop letting him troll you. He's not even on the list. #hesnot666."
