Grammys 2016 Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Nominees, Who Should/Will Win: Kendrick or Big Sean

By Ryan Middleton | Feb 10, 2016 04:30 PM EST

The Grammys are five days away and we predicting away who will win and dishing on who should win despite the voters. The Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category is generally a celebration of the biggest collaboration with the biggest rappers. Big Sean comes together with Kanye West and John Legend. Nicki Minaj collabs with Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown. John Legend is nominated again on "Glory" with Common, while Kendrick Lamar works with some artists outside of hip-hop. Who should and will win are pretty close, but they probably won't be the same.

Who Should Win: Kendrick Lamar featuring Bilal, Anna Wise & Thundercat - These Walls

This one is close between the soulful cut by Kendrick Lamar, Bilal, Anna Wise and Thundercat "These Walls" from To Pimp A Butterfly and Big Sean's emotional track with Kanye West and John Legend "One Man Can Change The World."

Women rarely get recognized in hip-hop for things beyond a feature and Nicki Minaj has helped to change that, but she shouldn't take this category this year. Jidenna and John Legend/Common are too dated for this year compared to "These Walls" and "One Man Can Change The World."

While "Alright" may be the most celebrated track from To Pimp A Butterfly, "These Walls" comes in a close second and it is easy see with the soulful and funky contributions from his Kendrick's collaborators. It still feels like a quintessential K.Dot track, but you can feel everyone on the tune.

That being said the message on "One Man Can Change The World" puts it in a close second, though Kanye's vocal addition didn't seem all that necessary.

Who Will Win: Big Sean featuring Kanye West & John Legend - One Man Can Change The World

No offence to Jidenna, but he is going up against some of the titans in hip-hop and the Grammys are loath to give out awards to upstarts. He has no chance. "Glory" feels really dates at this point and did during voting.

This comes down to Nicki, Kendrick and Big Sean. Nicki only has a chance because she has some huge names on her track as a feature. However the momentum that Kendrick has taken into this year outpunches her and what Big Sean brought to the table with his own collaboration.

Kanye has won this category four times before, so he is gold on a collaboration and John Legend's voice is smooth as butter that translates with the voters. Though this feels like Kendrick's year with 11 nominations, he shouldn't win plenty elsewhere with "Alright," which could take home four awards alone. That being said the message in "One Man Can Change The World" makes it a worthy winner.
