Throughout the years, there have been misunderstandings about who really established Slipknot or who the creators of the band were. More recently, percussionist Shawn Crahan, popularly known as Clown, finally clarified the who really started the group.

The musician recently spoke in an interview with "The Break Down With Nath & Johnny" where he opened up that there have been "real misunderstandings about who started the band or whatever."

Clown then explained the truth behing the band's conception, saying that it was him, his late bandmate Paul Gray, and former lead vocalist Andrew Rouw, also known as Anders Colsefni.

According to NME, the three musicians all worked on Slipknot's first independent album titled "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat." back in 1996. In addition, they got help from Joey Jordison on drums, as well as Donnie Steele and Josh Brainard on guitars.

Shawn 'Clown' Crahan Recalls Slipknot's Early Days

Elsewhere in the interview, Clown revealed that Anders Colsefni left the group "really early in the game" so when they struck a contract with a record label, it was only him and Gray who were left.

"I'm here to tell you my friend Paul Gray was at my wedding three years prior [to] he and I and Andy starting the band. And that's that. And so I had family," he recalled.

Clown added that he had two children at the time and Gray attended his wedding because his then-fiancé was eight months pregnant during the ceremony.

"Then we start the band, and then a year or so after starting the band, we get pregnant and have our third child, and we have that child before we're signed," Clown explained.
