After years of facing health problems, Joni Mitchell has been making surprise appearances at several shows and awards ceremonies over the past few months.

The folk music icon had her most recent appearance at the Grammy Awards 2024, where she also nabbed a gramophone for Best Folk Album Award after beating Dom Flemons, The Milk Carton Kids, Old Crow Medicine Show, Nickel Creek, Paul Simon and Rufus Wainwright.

Joni Mitchell Is Counting Down Her Final Days, Per Sources

Aside from her nomination, Mitchell's health issues reportedly pushed her to appear at this year's Grammy Awards because she felt like it might be her farewell appearance.

An insider made the claim to National Enquirers, per RadarOnline.com, saying Mitchell knows "she doesn't have much time left."

"[And] she wanted to give her fans a last chance to see her singing one of her most significant songs," the source went on. "Joni is struggling in so many ways, she's convinced her body will give out on her sooner than later."

On top of her medical issues, her 60-pound weight gain added more worries to her fans. Medical experts added that she probably weighs 180 pounds now.

The insider added that Mitchell, who never performed at the awards show before, chose Grammy Awards to reach millions of fans in her reported final act.

Mitchell's representatives have yet to respond to the recent claims.

The "Both Sides Now" singer serenaded the attendees at the Gorge Amphitheater in Quincy, Wash., with a three-hour set. She also announced two concert dates this year and confirmed her upcoming appearance at the Hollywood Bowl in October.

Joni Mitchell's Health Issues

In 2015, Mitchell faced a near-death experience when she suffered a brain aneurysm.

In addition, she told The Los Angeles Times in 2010 about her "weird, incurable illness" - Morgellons disease.

"Fibers in a variety of colors protrude out of my skin like mushrooms after a rainstorm: they cannot be forensically identified as animal, vegetable or mineral. Morgellons is a slow, unpredictable killer - a terrorist disease: it will blow up one of your organs, leaving you in bed for a year," Mitchell said.

However, experts told The Daily Mail that medical professionals call it a "delusional disease" because they have yet to learn more about it.
