Sam Smith appeared at Vivienne Westwood's show during Paris Fashion Week, but they were seen walking down the runway instead of sitting in the front row.

Smith, who goes by they/them pronouns, was invited to walk for the decorated designer's Fall/Winter 2024 runway; they were wearing a green long-sleeve top, a red plaid jacket, and green high-waisted kilt shorts.

The look was tied with a headpiece in the same cloth as the shorts, with black tulle hanging from the side, and platform heels with red-and-black patterned socks; the "I Know I'm Not the Only One" hitmaker also held a walking stick.

According to People Magazine, the Grammy Award-winning singer walked down the runway a second time with a black ensemble look.

Sam Smith Gets Hate For Vivienne Westwood Outfit

Clips of Smith walking down the runway made its way to X (formerly known as Twitter), and netizens could not help but feel embarrassed for them.

"There's literally no way [they] thought [they] ate," one wrote.

"I miss the time when actual models used to grace the runway."

"I can smell them through the screen."

"How are they not embarrassed [or] mortified?" Another remarked.

While many questioned the "Unholy" singer's outfit, their fans defended them by explaining that Smith did not choose what they wore and even fought back against those who body-shamed the singer.

"Look, I get it if people simply didn't like the look or their walk or just don't like Sam in general, but when did this ever become an excuse to intentionally body shame or misgender someone [sic]? the selective inclusivity shows," a fan wrote.

"There's nothing that saddens me more than the hate that Sam Smith gets simply for existing in their body."

Sam Smith Responds to Fat-Shaming Comments

This is not the first time Smith has received criticism over their body; the "I'm Not Here to Make Friends' singer opened up about body dysmorphia during an interview in February 2023.

"I'm happier in my own skin on 'Gloria'," they said, referring to their latest album. "I feel liberated, released from pressures I felt when I was young... My mum says that, as I've got older, I've stopped caring what people think as much. She tends to be right."

They went on to explain how making "Glora" inspired them to "get closer to who [they are]," specifically the "feminine spirit in [them]."
