What To Know About Willie Nelson's Health Issues

Over the years, Nelson has sparked retirement rumors due to his health issues.

In 2019, he began experiencing a breathing problem that turned out to be a lung condition called emphysema. Back problems and collapsed lungs also pulled him down while he was recovering from his hip replacement surgery at the time.

His early medical conditions led him to cancel some shows, though Nelson remained determined to hold more tours as he wanted to enjoy his days as an artist instead.

"I think I need to keep being creative, not to prove anything but because it makes me happy just to do it," he said of his career. "I think trying to be creative, keeping busy, has a lot to do with keeping you alive."

Nelson added in another interview, "All I do is play music and golf. Which one do you want me to give up?"
