Fans and critics have applauded Amy Lee of Evanescence for her flawless vocals and delivery of her emotional songs, but it seems that the lyrics of the tracks that she wrote reflected her own life story as she struggled with many things in the past; know more about the singer's tragic background below.

According to Grunge, Lee's music was inspired by personal experiences, and she translated all of her feelings into the songs.

Unfortunately, the singer experienced a devastating loss when she was only six years old as her sister passed away.

The outlet noted that the song "Hello" from the album Fallen, released in 2003, was inspired by the tragic death of her sister, who was only three years old when she died.

Speaking with Blender in 2004, the musician said: "When that happened, my whole perception of life changed... It sounds stupid, but that was when I became an artist. The music is my attempt to heal myself."

Amy Lee Suffered Another Loss Later in Life

The lyrics of her heartbreaking songs indeed reflect her life story as she suffered another devastating loss when she was 36 years old as her younger brother named Robby died at the age of 24.

She spoke with Kerrang to share her feelings about the two losses that she overcame, saying the second time around, it was more "about love and pain" rather than fear.

"The perspective is very valuable, but I'd rather not have it. I'd rather he be here more than anything," she added.

The outlet then noted that the album The Bitter Truth, released in 2021, was dedicated to her brother.

Amy Lee Mental Health Problems

At a young age, Amy Lee suffered from anxiety and depression; she recalled to Audacy that she was able to get through her mental health problems by creating something.

She explained that she was able to "self-soothe" and create her own therapy through "the catharsis of creation," whether making music, cooking food, or even painting something, as long as those things made her feel good.

Later in life, she expressed most of her feelings through the creation of music, especially when the time when she was in an abusive relationship.

Most of the songs from the Fallen album were raw and personal because she mentioned that after recording those songs, she felt like she was listening to her own words.
